The numbers make the case. The story wins the room.
I'm an economist by training and a storyteller by nature. I started in government, consulted for clients in regulated industries, and now commercialize technology. The job has always been the same: work out what the numbers say, then get a skeptical room to act on it.
I've done that for voters on three federal campaigns, and for buying committees in heavily regulated industries like health, energy and defence.
I don't particularly enjoy doing the same analytical task twice. When the analysis got repetitive, I automated it; when the data was locked in a portal, I wrote something to free it. Everything on the technical side is self-taught, mostly by breaking things and reading the error messages carefully.
